Ms. Shelly's News February 8

We had a wonderful school assembly this morning based on "kindness" and led by our wonderful first grade! We kicked off "Raise Craze"! Start thinking about how you are showing kindness to each other at home and ways we could show kindness to others in the community. We will be doing some things in class to make others feel special.

It was our week to collect and weigh the plastic bags. Our Rocket buddies help us with this task. Thank you for continuing to help support all our our PBL's! K- Plastic film recycling 1st- collecting loose change to "Give burns the Boot" every Friday, 2nd- aluminum pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Please send in your Valentine cards with the "from" only. It helps us get them passed out quickly. We are making a bag at school. No need to send in a separate item.

We have had some trouble with school store items in our classroom. As a class, we came to a solution that we would not use these items in the classroom anymore. We have sent everything home that was in their school boxes and asked that they to not bring them back to class. They are still able to go to the school store if the choose, but the items will have to stay in their book bag and go home at the end of the day.

Please only have a toy in book bags if your child is the Star Student for the week. This has been another distraction that we are trying to correct.

Continue to practice sight words every night for 5-10 minutes. We can really see improvement in all of their reading!
Continue to practice counting to 100 by 1's and 10's at home.
Shoe Tying practice...There are some super interested kids wanting to tie their shoes all on their own. Be sure to practice this skill at home.

We will be sharing a link through email on Monday to easily access what you will need to complete for the Digital Learning Day. I will also post the link on the blog as well.

The RBES PTO is heading up this kindness initiative. The students have painted a rock to pass out in the community to say someone has been R.O.C.K.E.D. by kindness. The rock and card, along with more specifics will come home next week. The purpose of Raise Craze is not to pay students for being kind, but to encourage acts of kindness in general. This is to go along with the "k" in the ROCKETS way! Make sure you record what you do in the community on the Raise Craze website in order to show our class is working hard to pay it forward!

Ms. Shelly's News February 1

We are well into the new year. The school year has flown by and we are continuing to make the most of our day! The kids and I had a lot of fun celebrating my birthday this week with mini ice cream cones to go with Hiroki's cupcakes and learning games on Friday.
A few things to mention:

Send in those Six Flags reading logs from home! I have not mailed them off yet. It's a FREE ticket to six flags for all of their hard work!!

Reading Log

The Father/Daughter dance is this Friday, Feb. 8th.
Field trip information came home. INK is always a favorite!You must have attended the volunteer training to be part of the class. Parents must meet us there and pay separately
We will make a Valentine's bag in class to collect all of our sweet valentine cards in. No need to send in a separate box. The Valentine Day celebration is very low key. This is not a party that parents attend.
Just write the "from" on valentine cards that you send in. It makes it quick for them to hand out.

Ms. Shelly's News January 18

This past Wednesday was the 100th day of school and we did lots of celebrating! Thank you for working so hard on those cute 100th day shirts. We enjoyed showing them off to each other during our fashion show. We exercised to 100 by doing sets of 10 different exercises and dancing to the "Count to 100" song.

Field trip information:

We will be going to the Ink museum on February 21. Parents may attend the field trip only if they have been through the volunteer training provided by the school. This is a school wide policy. You will have to meet us at the museum and pay separately at the door. Permission slips will come home soon.

They are putting in the work, why not get a little reward for their efforts! By submitting the reading log to me, once the time requirement is complete, the students will earn a FREE ticket to Six Flags to use this summer. Remember, there is a water park now for those who are not a fan of roller coasters. The due date for Six Flags Read To Succeed is coming up. All reading counts, reading to themselves, reading together with you, being read to by you! Be sure to record the stories you have read and the times on the sheet that was sent home. Week in Review:

ELA- We read 100 days of Cool and discussed parts of a story and made predictions about what would happen in the story.

Writing- We created portraits of ourselves at 100 years old and wrote about what we might do when we turn 100.
Math- We worked on counting to 100 by counting out groups of 10 and skip counting by 10's to complete our 100th day necklaces.
SS- We watched Emily's 100th day of school

Activity Snapshot:

We practiced using scales and determining if something was heavier or lighter.
We drew a picture on how we can make the world a better place.

Ms. Shelly's News January 11

A project came home to work on over the week for the 100th day of school. I hope you have fun working on this fun shirt! Some of the students mentioned they were worried they would forget to wear it. We talked about how we could be "proactive" and get our clothes out the night before as a solution.

Chapped lips are always a problem in the winter. I am fine with you sending in chapstick for your child to keep in their school box. Please label with their name and have them show me so I know they have some. Thanks!

Please be sure to send in the slip of paper to let us know you were able to complete the Speak Up technology survey with your student(s) and as a parent. We appreciate all of your input and time with this.

Father/Daughter dance RSVP's went home today. Be sure to get those in so we can get the most accurate count. It is such a fun night!

Yearbook pre-order sales is ending soon! Please make sure you purchase now if you think you would like one. There are very few extras available day of if you change your mind.

100th Day of School Project

We will celebrate our 100th day of school on Wednesday,
January 16th.

We have planned a fun day where the children will experience 100 through many different activities. To help us visualize what 100 objects look like, we are inviting each child to decorate a plain t-shirt with 100 items on it. Some ideas to use as decorations are stickers, googly eyes, fabric paint, cotton balls, buttons, pom-poms, safety pins, stamps, etc. The lighter weight the item, the easier it is to glue, stick, or attach 100 things to the shirt. Please remember that your child will be wearing the 100 things all day (it will get very uncomfortable to wear 100 heavy things like pennies or crayons on a t-shirt.) Have fun creating any shirt that you would like with 100 items on it. Please have your child wear their shirt on Wednesday, January 16 as we celebrate the 100th day of school!

Speak-up survey

Please take a moment to complete the Speak Up Survey about technology. We are required to have a certain number of staff and parents complete this survey by the state. Your opinion is very important to us. Some description will be necessary for our sweet kindergarten students. Our goal is to have 100% of students and both parents complete this survey for our class! The school is also sending home a paper copy seen below with a slip to return to the school once the survey is complete.

Mrs. Shelly's News December 14

We have had a fun-filled week of review games, singing, sharing holiday traditions and making some sweet presents. We met with our Rocket Buddies and enjoyed getting a little crafty making ornaments, playing with "Tuffy" the bunny, reading holiday and snow books, and ended with a yummy holiday doughnut. We had so much fun today singing songs with our classmates and watching the teachers do funny Christmas skits. Ask your student about their favorite part of the silly teachers performing during the "12 Days of Christmas"song!

The class party was awesome! Thank you all for all the wonderful support to make it such a fun time for the students.
